‘My trip to the EV Experience Centre’

Our focus at the EV Experience Centre is the visitors and helping them make their decision about electric cars, as well as give them a better understanding of the industry, models and lifestyle. Sian Whyte visited the Centre not long after we launched last year, and has since gone on to purchase a Renault Zoe after experiencing a short term test drive; find out about her EVEC experience below:

What made you want to visit the EV Experience Centre in Milton Keynes?

We already had an interest in cars and technology and knew EVEC was opening so a visit was a must! My husband had already driven several Tesla, a first-generation Zoe, Volt and i3, and I was getting interested in the idea of owning an EV.

What was your impression of the centre? (i.e. the look and atmosphere of the centre, the staff)

Despite being a little surprised by the position in the City Centre, we found the EVEC welcoming and inspiring. A good selection of cars inside, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff, then the surprise of the fleet of EVs outside for test-drives.

Did you do any short-term test drives in one of the Centre’s vehicles? If so, which one(s) and how was the experience?

Over two separate visits, I tested the Zoe, Leaf, Up and Soul. All the drives were great – good info from the staff who seemed knowledgeable about each car. Plenty of time to get an initial feel and we then were able to take further test-drives directly with the manufacturers, for the cars that interested us.

Did you do any long-term test drives? If so, which one(s) and how was the experience?

We didn’t arrange any long-term tests with EVEC as we already had this arranged directly with manufacturers. In the end I had a 3-day test in both Leaf and i3, and several half day tests in the Zoe.

Did your visit to the EV Experience Centre help make the decision to purchase an electric car?

Definitely! It made it all more relevant and honed down what I needed in an EV. If it wasn’t for the EVEC I would probably still be just toying with the idea rather than driving an EV!
